WOW, that paper on GTPase signaling pathway was confusing! Good thing Iowa is there to save the day and explain in full details what that paper was trying to say. I’m glad we dont have real teachers teaching us, otherwise it will be boring as heck. I would take scientists teaching me scinece anyday. They make a lot more sense than the teachers.
After journal club, Wendell, gave a speech on synthetic biology. I thought I was more interested in biotechnology, but after this boot camp I seem to be more interested in synthetic biology and engineering new biology parts (bioengeneering is the perfect major for me). I just find it really fascinating, like how we can just take different biological parts (modules, domains) and change it to improve it better than what nature gave us.
After lunch, we learn about how to clone the parts we want. It was a bit confusing at first, but it turned clear after a while. Oliver makes sure that every student understand what is presented before moving on. I doubt it will be like that in college. I think the boot camp was a really good idea! I think it will really prepare us for the jamboree.
